-51- Y-eazziik

Expression. From Dardja.

“An exclamation used exclusively by women to criticise the actions of another person”

This word can be used in very similar contexts to that of cq but it comes with a milder negative connotation. It can also be interchanged with the expression ezziik, which can be translated as ‘shame on you’ according to this Algerian Arabic list of words.

Dardja is another one of those languages where there is a far greater dichotomy between the language that is employed by men and that of women. It is not quite the same as French, for example, where ‘le’ and ‘la’ indicate masculine and feminine nouns, but more ‘if you are of male/female gender yourself, you will use these words explicitly,’ almost reinforcing the gender roles, perhaps.
