Noun. From Arabic.

“The amount of water that can be scooped up in one hand”


Another measurement word. Admittedly, not as unusual as the word I posted yesterday, but it’s still a great example of how we don’t have a word for something that we’ve all probably done numerous times in our lives!

In Andalusia, they have the word ‘garfá,’ meaning the same thing as gurfa. There’s a good example of a loanword for you =]
